Fear not the vastness of space or the inky darkness of shadows, the real evil is always right in your face during the bright light of day, smiling as it attempts to rip out your throat. That’s how life in these United States has always stuck me. The meanest, nastiest, unashamed evil in America has always been perpetuated by the people who past laws and make judgements, vote for horrible people who deny human rights, discriminate against other humans and sanction violence and death against those who oppose their rule. To me the true evil is the bland masses, oblivious to empathy and sympathy. In that way the judge can be more vicious than the mugger and the politician more insidious than a blackmailer. America was found of the hypocrisy of poetry slid into the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, documents that used the words “liberty” and “equality” in the most limited manner possible. People site music, dance and style as black American’s greatest contribution to this nation. Not even close to being true. The greatest contribution black folks have made to America is its enduring fight, in the face of endless brutality and countless murders, to make this nation live up to the lofty rhetoric that’s practices deny. With us America is just the sad language of the insincere.
