I’ve gotten great feedback for my commentary in Reggie Hudlin’s documentary, ‘Sidney,’ on the late pioneering film superstar Sidney Poitier that’s now airing in Apple TV. Though most people associate me with music, I’ve written quite a bit about cinema over the years, well before for becoming a director. One of the reasons Reggie included me in the documentary was the chapter in my book, Blackface, titled ‘Sidney and Me’ about his impact on me as a child in the ‘60s and how much of role model he remained for me. The book is a few years old but my thoughts on Poitier, and the history of black cinema into the 21st century, remain relevant. Please watch Reggie’s fine film and then check out my book to celebrate the life of a giant of American film.
Blackface is available from Amazon, Barnes & Nobles or any book website as a hard cover or paperback. You can also hear the audio book on Audible.com.
