Willie Mays’ career spanned the 1950s, ‘60s and ended in 1973. The needle drops in the film reflect those years with an emphasis on soul jazz with a Blue Note flavor. The score by Marcus Miller, which you’ll hear in the film, has a similar musical palate. There’s also an original song by Chuck D that has some serious sax soloing. The track list above are of songs that we use in the film. Below is a Spotify playlust put together by editor Darrin Roberts that reflects various tracks we considered, including gems we couldn’t quite fit in Say Hey. Unlike you see the film you can vibe along with the soundtrack.
