This interesting new site Crate looks for content from various creators and aggregates them. Nothing new, I guess. But they had the good taste to put together my top five Tiny Desk concert picks and then add links to the full performances. I’m flattered and happy that some great performers are being celebrated again. There’s no doubt that NPR’s Tiny Desk has been one of the best curated and executed spaces for live performance of the decade. I stayed in a soul/neo-soul groove in my picks with the vibrant Tank and the Bangas from NOLA, falsetto soul of Daniel Caesar, folky UK singer/songwriter Michael Kiwanuka with the throwback voice, a then still emerging Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals, plus a long time favorite, Raphael Saadiq, playing songs from his brilliant The Way I See It LP.
