A few years back I realized that a lot of my journalism was not only out of print, but was published in publications that had long been out of existence. My collection, Buppies, Bboys, Baps & Bohos, consisted mostly of my work for the Village Voice, but I’d written regularly for the Amsterdam News, Record World, Billboard, and Playboy. Hence Mixtape Volume 1, which covered a wide range of topics and included some unpublished material such as my interview with Bob Marley. Along with Pacific Publishing we did a limied edition hard cover and then a paperback.
Following the great response to that book, we put together Volume 2 to celebrate hip hop’s 50th anniversary, which is more of a fanzine format.
It’s been a great experience relaunching these stories and interviews. Thinking of doing a Volume 3 focused on cinema and sports. We’ll see. Both Volume 1 and 2 are available only via www.pacificpacific.pub. If you purchase both you’ll get a nice Christmas discount.
