JAMEL SHABAZZ'S NEW PHOTO BOOK - ALBUMS
My essay celebrating his iconic images of NYC circa 1970s and '80s
Jamel Shabazz is a fellow Brooklynite who’s built a global following with his relaxed, street saavy photographs of New York City in the days before hip-hop and during its rise. His work is rife with iconic silhouettes and personal style, embodied not just by the clothes worn, but the physical attitude of the wearers. That’s what I tried to capture in my essay. But, if you really want all that flavor, you should order this handsome collection published by Steidl/The Gordon Parks Foundation for $50 and start your year off right.
