The sometimes frosty weather this winter, along with the short days, have slowed down by Follow the Sound posts on YouTube. But there have been some moments of sun and less chilly days, so I’ve been out on the streets of New York again, documenting an ‘80s dance club, a venerable ballroom, and a Brooklyn location close to my heart. It’s been a lot of fun going around the city revisiting clubs, studios and other sites where music was made and enjoyed, but are now often buried beneath glittering condos and big box retailers. I try not to moan about the changes but to celebrate what made these places worth remembering. To paraphrase Dr. Seus, “Don’t cry because they’re gone, smile because they happened.” More Follow to Sound episodes to come in 2025.
