Chuck D's doc series is just in time for hip-hop's 50th anniversary

Starting January 30 on PBS, Fight the Power: How Hip-Hop Changed the World, will be airing. Executive produced by Chuck D and his business partnet Lorrie Boula, it looks at the interaction between the music and the struggle for civil rights and equity. It’s a co-production with the BBC and, if you’re in the United Kingdom, the series is already available. I consulted on, and was interviewed in, the production. In fact the team found footage from 1993 Congressional hearings where I testified in defense of rap music against attacks from anti-rap activist C. Delores Tucker and Soul Train host Don Cornelius. I think one of the revelations of the series is how Fat Joe, an MC not preceived as socially conscious, gives some insightful commentary, along with journalist and scholars. Check the PBS stations in your local market for exact times and air dates.
