DEAR MAMA TRAILER

I am an executive producer on the FX/Hulu five part series debuting April 21

Back in 2019 my long time friend Allen Hughes invited me to be part of the producing team on a Tupac Shakur documentary series for FX, which was then titled ‘Outlaw.' At that time I was an associate producer on the project, having been a advisor on Allen’s visionary ‘The Defiant Ones’ HBO doc series about record men Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. Well, a lot has happened in the intervening four years, including a global pandenic. I ended up taking a very active role in the project and being bumped up to being one of the project’s executive producers. What Allen originally conceived has evolved into ‘Dear Mama,’ a five part series that focuses as much on his Tupac’s mother Afeni as on the late legendary MC.

As we get closer to the premiere on April 21, I’ll write more about the series’s journey. For now I just want to share the official trailer for ‘Dear Mama’ with my Nelson George Mixtape readers, because its been one of the most interesting and fullfilling creative experiences I’ve ever been apart of. I’ve known Allen since 1992, but it was our first time working together and a true pleasure.
