COLLABORATION WITH ROGER GUENVEUR SMITH
A spoken word piece shot around the Martin Luther King statue in Washington, D.C.
Roger Guenveur Smith is a versatile actor, poet and stage director. He’s been in more Spike Lee joints than any actor (he was Smiley in Do the Right Thing) and is the prolific creator of dynamic one man shows (he’s portrayed Frederick Douglas, Huey P. Newton, Rodney King among others.) We’ve collaborated on a few things over the years, including this piece that was shot for an event celebrating the anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, a piece of legislation currently under attack all over the United States. Like all of Roger’s work this piece speaks to the past, the present and future. It’s short but potent.
