CINEMA DISPATCHES FROM BK AND LA
Update on a film my wife edited and scenes from producing a film this summer
In the wake of the pandemic my friend, writer/director Seth Rosenfeld, wrote a script set around a great Italian restaurant on the lower East Side. My wife Malika Weeden was hired to edit the film, all of which was cut in our Brooklyn living room. The film Sundays at Il Posto will debut on Apple TV and other streaming outlets on October 1. Malika and I even have cameos in the film. Please check out the trailer above.
I’ve posted a series of short production diaries on shooting the untitled Chris Rock movie in Los Angeles this summer (see above and below.) In the trades its been listed as ‘Misty Green.’ That may not be the final title. As one of the few features shooting in Los Angeles this year we’ve received a lot of good will from the film community and been able to tap into the city’s supply of hard working crew and local actors, while booking a slew of A list talent for a film Chris wrote, his directing and has a part in. Rosalind Eleazar, best known for her role in the Emmy nominated ‘Slow Horses’ gives a star making performance in the lead. We’ve shot 21 of 25 days. It’s been a grind but its going to be a fresh, dramatic and funny look at life in 2025.
My favorite location during production has been the Newman scoring stage on the Fox lot where ‘The Sound of Music,’ ‘Jaws,’ ‘Hello Dolly,’ ‘Love Me Tender,’ ‘The King and I,’ and ‘Stormy Weather’ were among the many soundtracks were performed. It’s an amazing space where you really feel the joy of creation and spirit of sound. Hopefully Disney, which now owns the property, keeps the building in tact, because its a treasure.
